Gerald Farinas is a published writer and editor, public historian, and public theologian currently living in the far northside neighborhood of Edgewater Beach in Chicago, Ill.

Gerry was ordained as an elder of the Presbyterian Church (USA) by Executive Presbyter, Rev. Dr. Craig M. Howard, on February 13, 2022. On the same day, Gerry assumed leadership in the historic Edgewater Presbyterian Church.

Since 2023, Gerry has been serving as Elder Commissioner in the business of the Chicago Presbytery. He sits on the Commission for Preparation for Ministry (CPM).

In 2025, Gerry was elected Commissioner of the 227th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA)—the national governing body of the Church.

A community service booster, Gerry was charter director of the Evanston Nouveau Rotary Club in Evanston, Ill. from June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. He served as President for 2025-26.

Gerry is a published writer with past work in LGBTQ media as editor and publisher. He currently works with GoPride Media Networks and its flagship GoPride.com.

A longtime dementia educator, for 20 years, Gerry served as director of resident services and professional development instructor at a non-profit community affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church. He left service on July 22, 2025.

Gerry was born and raised in Honolulu with roots in the sugarcane and pineapple plantations of Hawaii. He is the grandson and great-grandson of plantation laborers.

He is an avid reader of historical novels.
